Cohen Michael

Here are some of the early pictures of our new baby boy, Cohen Michael, just minutes after he was born.

He was born unto this world at 11:38pm on Monday, September 28, 2009. A remarkable baby boy at 5 lbs. 12 oz. and 18 3/4 inches.

Mommy did an amazing job... just over one hour of labor... and now reunited with her baby boy.

Time to take the foot prints.

Cohen's first bath!

Mommy and Cohen get some much needed rest.

Monarch Tagging with Polk Conservation

Saturday afternoon we went to Fort Des Moines Park to learn about the growth stages of the Monarch Butterfly. We also learned about their migration and tagging them to track their migration patterns.
We tried to find some butterflies. We saw one but it was too high to net.

Still looking.

Nothing here. We have more in our backyard with our butterfly bushes. I am going to email Polk County Conservation next year around June/July to see if we can get some tags so we can tag them in our backyard and email them the data.
All was not lost. We did learn how to tell if butterflies are boys or girls. That was pretty interesting. Now that we know that, we can tag them.

Custer SD Final Days

We went to a rock shop so Adele could pick out a "precious gem." She wanted to buy an aquamarine. So Grandma ponied up the money to buy her choice gem. Here is Adele and the shop owner picking out the perfect aquamarine.

Here she is in the rock shop trying on antlers.
2 of the favorite things to do when on vacation. . .

. . . . . . . . . Relax

. . . . . . . . . Eat donuts

What makes this noise? THUMP!!!. . . thump That would be all the birds flying into the windows. I think they see the reflection of the forest and don't realize that there is a window that they just flew into. Many birds would drop feeling dazed and lay on the deck for awhile before they were able to fly away. Our little vet was able to pet one while it was trying to recover from a concussion.
